What is Meadow?

What is Meadow?

Meadow Alternative Provision is a primary behaviour unit based at Swinnow Primary School. We have a capacity of 20 pupils who are separated into two different classes. The unit is managed by Mr Phillips.

How do we work?

At Meadow, we want our children to enjoy and achieve. Through our three rules - Ready, Respectful, Safe - we promote a positive learning environment. We understand that some children find the classroom a challenging place; so work proactively to give all our children the best experience possible.

Our staff team help to support children who sometimes struggle to manage their emotions or behaviour. All our staff are trained and experienced at managing challenging behaviour and do this through a trauma informed approach.

What do the children learn?

In the mornings, English and maths lessons are taught, following the national curriculum. They are also taught the foundation subjects every day. To allow for the SEMH needs of our children, lessons are 45 minutes long. we are able to support the children to achieve and make progress.

In the afternoons, the children take part in a therapeutic curriculum. These sessions are aimed at the SEMH needs of the children. An example of the sessions we teach are:

  • Self esteem
  • Resilience
  • Anger Management
  • Empathy
  • Creative Arts

And many more...

How long are children at Meadow?

Children are referred to Meadow for an initial 6-week placement. After the 6 weeks has passed, a review takes place into the next steps. The aim is for children to transition back to their primary school. Obviously, we understand this might not be possible. The ultimate aim is for children to be happy in their education and we constantly strive for this.

How many classes are there?

The three classes are:

Orchard - The reception and KS1 (year 1 and 2) class who are taught by Miss Marray.

Prairie - The lower KS2 (year 3 and 4) class who are taught by Mrs Waterhouse.

Woodland - The upper KS2 (year 5 and 6) class who are taught by Mr Hancox.
