Meadow Alternative Provision - Class Teacher
MPS/UPS; Full time; Permanent
Closing date: Wednesday 26th March 2025 at 9:00am
The West Area Inclusion Partnership (WAIP) has a hugely exciting opportunity for a primary teacher who has a passion for supporting children with SEMH needs.
Swinnow Primary School hosts Meadow Alternative Provision – a provision for primary aged children with SEMH needs from schools across the west of Leeds. We are looking for a teacher to join our friendly and passionate team.
The focus of Meadow is to support children to learn the skills they need to succeed in school. The intent is that children attend for 6 – 12 weeks, but many placements are longer. Some children successfully reintegrate to their referring schools; others move onto specialist provisions. Whilst children attend, they continue with their academic learning in core and foundation subjects, with a focus on therapeutic style interventions and PSHE. The children are part of a class of up to 7 children, with increased adult support.
The role is predominantly based in KS2, but some teaching of our younger children in KS1 is part of this role.
You might be a teacher who already has experience working in specialist or alternative provision or a mainstream teacher keen to develop their career. What is most important, is a positive attitude and a desire and willingness to learn.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Passionate about supporting children with SEMH needs;
- Empathetic – they show understanding about the causes of challenging behaviour;
- Skilled in behaviour management, using positive, trauma-informed approaches;
- Flexible and adaptable – they understand that things change quickly;
- An effective and creative teacher who knows how to bring learning to life for children;
- Ready for an exciting new challenge.
Working in Meadow is not always an easy job but is a hugely rewarding one. If you think this might be the right challenge for you and you are interested in finding out more, then we’d be delighted to show you around. Please contact James Phillips – Meadow manager – for an informal chat or to make an appointment. We look forward to meeting you!
