Teacher – MPS/UPS; Full time; Permanent

The West Area Inclusion Partnership (WAIP) has an exciting opportunity for a primary teacher who has a passion for supporting children with SEMH needs.

Swinnow Primary School hosts the ABC Centre and OASIS – provisions for primary aged children with SEMH needs from schools across the west of Leeds. We are looking for a teacher to join our friendly team.

The focus of ABC and OASIS is to support children to learn the skills they need to succeed in school. The intent is that children attend for 6 – 12 weeks, but many placements are longer. Some children successfully reintegrate to their referring schools; others move onto specialist provisions. Whilst children attend, they continue with their academic learning in core and foundation subjects, with a focus on therapeutic style interventions and PSHE.

The role is predominantly based in OASIS – teaching KS2 children, but some teaching of our younger children in ABC is part of this role.

You might be a teacher who already has experience working in specialist or alternative provision or a mainstream teacher keen to develop their career. What is most important, is a positive attitude and a desire and willingness to learn.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about supporting children with SEMH needs;
  • Empathetic – they show understanding about the causes of challenging behaviour;
  • Skilled in behaviour management, using positive, trauma-informed approaches;
  • Flexible and adaptable – they understand that things change quickly;
  • An effective and creative teacher who knows how to bring learning to life for children;
  • Ready for an exciting new challenge.

Working in ABC and OASIS is not always an easy job but is a hugely rewarding one. If you think this might be the right challenge for you and you are interested in finding out more, then we’d be delighted to show you around. Please contact James Phillips – OASIS manager – for an informal chat or to make an appointment. We look forward to meeting you!
