Welcome to the Swinnow Primary School website.

Wellbeing

At Swinnow Primary School, we actively promote the development of positive mental health. We teach it and talk about it, it feeds into everything that we do. We want our pupils to know that it is ok and normal to feel a whole range of emotions.

Early on in their school journey, our pupils are taught to identify their emotions by learning to understand what their bodies are telling them. Having emotional literacy enables our pupils to then share how they are feeling and this enables us to address difficulties straight away and to keep problems small. As pupils go through school, they build a toolbox of mental health strategies so they know what to do with big emotions. We are all unique, and the way we manage our emotions will differ. Please talk with your child about what works for them.

Our wellbeing ambassadors help us to break down any stigma that can be attached to mental health, and adults work hard to ensure that all our pupils know they are cared for, valued and supported. Our wellbeing motto is, "Together We Are Brighter." We pride ourselves on the positive relationships that we have with each other. If you have any concerns about your child’s emotional wellbeing or mental health then please talk to us. There are things we can do in school – or if it is deemed more appropriate, we can look to access support from another agency. We are here for you.

As a school, we promote '5 ways to wellbeing'.  Evidence has shown that there are five steps that we can take to improve our mental health and wellbeing. By building small actions into our daily lives, we are better able to live happier and healthier lives. It is a great way to spread the message of the importance of self-care. And also, when we  take care of ourselves, we are allowing ourselves to be and feel our best.
