At Swinnow Primary School, we recognise that computing is an essential part of preparing our pupils for life in a modern, digital world. Our Computing curriculum equips children with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to become confident, responsible, and creative users of technology.

Through engaging and carefully sequenced lessons, pupils learn how to use technology to express themselves, develop their ideas, and problem-solve in a range of contexts. We follow the Kapow Primary Computing scheme, which ensures full coverage of the National Curriculum and provides a clear progression of skills across all year groups. This high-quality curriculum allows our children to build their understanding step-by-step — from early programming and coding to more complex digital systems and data handling.

Online Safety

Online safety is a priority throughout our school. Children are taught how to stay safe, respectful and responsible when using technology — both in school and at home. Online safety is woven through all areas of our Computing curriculum and revisited regularly through assemblies, PSHE lessons, and themed events such as Online Safety Day.

We work closely with families to ensure that everyone in our community understands how to navigate the online world safely. Our goal is for every Swinnow pupil to become a digitally literate citizen, able to use technology positively and confidently.

Impact

By the time children leave Swinnow Primary School, they are able to use a range of digital tools independently and purposefully. They understand how to stay safe online, how to solve problems through computational thinking, and how technology can be used creatively and responsibly. Our Computing provision ensures that pupils are well-prepared for the next stage of their education and for the ever-evolving digital world beyond school.
