Music
At Swinnow, we believe that music is a vital part of every child’s education. Our intent is to provide a broad, engaging, and inclusive music curriculum that inspires creativity, self-expression, and confidence in all pupils. Through music, children learn to appreciate a wide range of styles and traditions, develop key musical skills, and understand the cultural importance of music both locally and globally.
We aim to:
- Foster a lifelong love of music and encourage children to enjoy performing, listening, and composing.
- Ensure that all pupils develop musical knowledge and skills in line with the National Curriculum, including singing, playing instruments, composing, and appraising.
- Promote cultural awareness and diversity, exposing pupils to music from different times, genres, and traditions, while celebrating the rich musical heritage of Yorkshire.
- Build confidence, collaboration, and creativity, encouraging children to express themselves and work together through shared musical experiences.
- Provide equitable access to music for all pupils, regardless of background or ability, recognising the value of music for wellbeing and community identity in our working-class context.
