Art

At Swinnow we aim to teach Art and Design in a fun and creative way. Our aspiration is to ensure that children are engaged, inspired and challenged throughout each area of art they study.

We value Art and Design as an important part of the children’s entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum. Art and Design provides children with the opportunities to develop and extend skills and an opportunity to express their creativity, imagination, thoughts and ideas.

Lessons will enable children to communicate what they see, feel and think. Children should experiment with ideas, colour, texture, pattern and different materials and processes, enabling them to continue to develop and secure their skill base, and become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques.

Children will be expected to be reflective and evaluate their work, thinking about how they can make changes and improve. Children will be encouraged to take risks and experiment and then reflect on why some ideas and techniques are successful. They will study artists from different movements and cultures.
