Welcome and welcome back to all our families, we hope you have had a great summer and are looking forward to the new adventures in Nursery.
We are starting the term with a focus on Nursery Rhymes, revisiting old favourites and introducing some new ones to the children too. We would love you to pop a post on Tapestry with your favourite song or rhyme - this could be a video of you singing, a picture or a book you choose a rhyme from.
Our first focus text this term is 'The Gingerbreadman', we are following the adventure of the Gingerbreadman as he tries to escape from being eaten!
The children are settled into the routines of the day and are having lots of fun exploring with their friends.
Welcome to the final half term of the summer.
We have lots of exciting learning planned and are beginning to look towards the transitions to 'big school' for our older Nursery children.
Now the weather has taken a turn for the better please remember to be sun safe.

Welcome back - we hope everyone has enjoyed a lovely Easter break and we wish 'Eid Mubarak' to those families celebrating this weekend.
We continue this term to explore the world around us, focussing on growing, plants and their lifecycles.
We begin the term with
Ten seeds by Ruth Brown - following the tale of a boy who plants seeds with unexpected consequence.
This book builds on our subitising and noticing in maths and supports our working memory when recalling the order of the animals in the story.

Later this half term we are celebrating The King's Coronation - May 6th
We will use two books to support our understanding of The Royal family and the Coronation.

This half term we are using the following books to develop our learning and understanding
of different animals.
Alongside our fiction books we are using non fiction texts to explore which animals lay eggs.
We are starting with The Scarecrow's hat by Ken Brown - a story of trading with super repeated refrains and a very clever chicken!
The children will retell the story using the language within the text to build their own vocabulary.
One fox by Kate read - a counting story with a surprising ending!
This book builds on our understanding of number, counting and subitising.
Friends by Kim Lewis - a story all about sharing, taking a turn and developing friendships.
And we will also explore the changes in Spring and the traditions in Easter celebrations

This is a contrasting setting to Blue Penguin.

All children are invited and information is on Tapestry if this is not a usual day for your child to attend.
If Christmas come in their Christmas tops we are providing hats, costumes or a piece of tinsel depending upon what your child would like to wear.

All our children are invited to attend the morning session today to join in the festive fun at our Christmas party - parents welcome to join us at 11oclock in Nursery when we hope to have a festive visitor

Maths
Repeating patterns
We have been looking closely and noticing patterns all around us - in the environment, in animals and on materials. Now we have moved to look further at 'repeating patterns'.
Children need the opportunity to see a pattern, to talk about what they can see, and to continue a pattern. At first, they will do this one item at a time, e.g. red cube, blue cube, red cube…verbalising the pattern helps.
Copying a pattern can be difficult for children if they have to keep comparing item by item.
Patterns with just two components are easiest – we discuss the nature of the pattern: how has the pattern been made?
Patterns can have a range of features such as varying objects, size or orientation.

We have been enjoying a number of poems from the Poetry Basket.
This week we have learnt

The children add actions as we go and repeat the poem together developing interest and confidence with vocabulary and playing with language.
Communication & Language and Literacy
We hope you have all had a super half term break.
We are using the traditional text 'The Gingerbreadman' this half term.
The children are enjoying retelling the story, creating their own versions, using the tuff tray to re-enact the tale and repeating 'Run, run as fast as you can, you can't catch me I'm the gingerbreadman!'
We really enjoyed our big bake - we all made gingerbreadmen together, using our senses to explore the ingredients - smelling, touching, looking and finally tasting the finished biscuits!

What a fantastic start to the new term.
The children have settled really well, they are enjoying exploring the environment and trying something new alongside someone new.
We have spent lots of time embedding the routines and expectations for each of the areas of learning so children are independent such as when they are painting, having snack or getting ready to go outside.

This book has supported our exploration of the creative areas and made us think a little about our own characteristics - what do we like? what would we like to try? Can we be who we want to be?

Welcome back to Summer term 2!
This half term we are beginning by learning and listening to some simple, fun poems.
We are practising our performance skills, being able to remember a short piece and playing with the pattern of language - all super oracy skills.
It is National smile month in June- we will be talking about healthy eating, oral health and about making good choices for a healthy life.
The children still continue to run each day after lunch and enjoy the garden area for lots of physical activity.

This week we have been finding out about the Queen and celebrating The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
We have enjoyed two funny books
'The Queen's knickers' and The Queen's hat.
We continued to develop our positive attitude to learning throughout the celebrations. We have painted pictures of the Queen, written invitations to the party, dressed up in red, white and blue, made special Jubilee pudding (Rhubarb Crumble) and had a super time whilst doing so.
The children have requested a stay and play session - there will be a number of opportunities for you to spend half an hour with us in Nursery during the week commencing 16th May - sign up on the list outside Nursery - if you can't make it this time around don't worry - we will hold another event after half term too.
This session will have a focus on Physical Development and Writing skills.
Nursery Parent consultations will take place on 5th and 10th May.

Planting beans
We have had a super time planting our bean seeds - we have been talking about what plants need to grow and linking this to the associated stories and books we have been sharing.
They have especially enjoyed Jasper's Beanstalk and are empathising with Jasper realising that waiting for the bean to grow does take a long time!
Mid March is busy at Nursery
Friday 18th March we are taking part in lots of Red Nose themed activities for Comic relief - children are welcome to come to school in 'non uniform' (dress up / pjs / anything goes in Nursery) for a donation to the Red nose Day charities. Take a look on Tapestry for some 'Red Nose' activities to try at home too.
Week commencing 11th March is the start pf British Science week - the theme this year is growth. In Nursery we are continuing to look at Jasper and his beanstalk and will be planting our own beans too.
We are also beginning to prepare the ground to plant potatoes and learning about 'what plants need to grow'. We will be planting seedlings for tomatoes and carrots too!

Nursery World book day - Wednesday 2nd March
The children had a super day dressing up and reading lots of different stories together.
We hope you had a super half term with the mix of snow and sunshine too!
This half term our focus is 'Growing'. We will be sharing lots of stories about growing things and planting seeds ourselves.

We are finishing this half term with another traditional tale as our focus book.
In Maths we are focusing on the number 3 so are using the story
'The three little pigs'.
This week is Children's mental health week.
The theme this year is 'Growing together'.
Each day we will focus on a different aspect.
Monday is our art with music day - we will look at ways to express our emotions through creative activities.
Tuesday is Safer Internet Day - we are going to talk lots about the people who care for us, look after us,
keep us well and help us grow.
We are going to talk to the children about what to do if there is a 'pop up' when they are on a tablet or phone.
On Wednesday we are having a dress up day in Nursery so we can 'dress to express'. Children are encouraged to come to school in what ever choice of clothes they wish - this may be fancy dress, Pjs, bright colours....the possibilities are endless.
On Thursday we are going to look at goals and things we would like to be able to do - we will be singing an dancing o SClub7 - Reach for the stars too!
On Friday we are going to plant spring bulbs so we can see them grow.

February 1st 2022 is the Lunar New Year - Year of the Tiger.
The children have been learning about the story of the animals river race, sampling some traditional Chinese food and having a go at using chopsticks.
Learning about different cultures and celebrations is part of our Personal and Social Development and helps to develop an Understanding of the world around us.
We have also been expanding and developing our mud kitchen area - the children have loved the mixtures, potions and perfume making experiences over the past week.
We do use the garden area in all weathers so remember to send your child in suitable clothing for outdoor play.

Our new focus story is The Three Billy Goats Gruff

The children have really enjoyed retelling the story using props and puppets. Taking in the role of the differently sized goats trip trapping over the rickety bridge in search of sweet juice grass and avoiding the big bad troll!
This story allows for repetition and the development of new vocabulary - it is super to hear the children using the new words in their independent play.
We talked lots about the 'rickety bridges' and decided to make our own improved bridges - take a look at these photographs that really capture our learning.

Well what a busy time we have had this month in Nursery, enjoying and exploring the winter weather and preparing for Christmas with a special Christmas lunch, a party and an outdoor performance.
We focussed on the story Stickman by Julia Donaldson, creating our own stickmen pictures and models.
We enjoyed the snowy days
We learnt about Christmas traditions and shared our experiences from home.
We learnt about baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the visitors to the stable.
The children have had a fabulous time and we hope everyone enjoys the holidays.

Pudsey Pirate 2p Challenge
Avast ye! Shiver me timbers! Batten down the hatches!
We will be taking part in the Pudsey Pirate 2p Challenge in aid of
Children in Need this November. Please encourage your children to
save any loose coins - 2ps or anything - and bring them into school.
We will take them up to Pudsey Leisure Centre on Friday 12th November
so they can be used to make the mosaic, which this year will be pirate themed.
As usual, we will have non-uniform day in exchange for a small donation.
If anyone wants dress up as a pirate - even better!
November is a busy month in Nursery, we will start by thinking about 'light', finding out about the Hindu festival Divali and the celebration of light 4th November.
We will talk about keeping safe - Road Safety week 15th November and think about the colouful fireworks we may see for Bonfire Night - 5th November.
We will introduce the children to Remembrance and the significance of the poppy, 11th November.
We will celebrate our love of Nursery Rhymes in 'World Nursery Rhyme Week' wc 15th November and think about how we make and develop friendships and how we can be respectful as part of antibullying week - 15th November.
Before focusing on the changes in the environment as we go from Autumn to Winter.

Mark Making
In Nursery we are very busy developing strength and coordination in our fine motor movements to aid our progress in mark making, drawing and writing. We offer lots of different experiences and activities for the children to explore inside and outdoors.
Over the next two weeks we are using 'Room on the Broom' by Julia Donaldson as our key text.
The children will be making potions, talking about the characters in the story, talking about what happened first and next.
We will have pumpkins in Nursery and will use them to enhance our provision to support language development, physical development and our counting skills.

This month we are looking for signs of Autumn. If you go out for a walk with your child and see anything Autumn related please bring them in to Nursery to add to our nature table.

Boogie Bear from Shake Rattle and Boogie is coming to see us each week in nursery to develop our singing, dancing and rhythm skills along side our confidence and willingness to have a go and try something new.
We base our leaning around the children's interests and our key text.
We have been looking at the story Errol's Garden by Gillian Hibbs, giving us chance to explore the change in season as we leave Summer and enter Autumn.

Seaside fiesta - we will explore everything the children connect with the seaside be it pirates, mermaids, sandcastles, ice cream, crabs, fish.....the list is endless.
We hope to have an outside 'party' on Wednesday to say goodbye to some of our nursery children and we invite all the children to come to nursery in seaside clothes or costumes on Wednesday.
We will share real experiences from our visits to the seaside, find out using books or technology what creatures and animals may live in or near the sea. ... and possible have an ice cream too!

Sports skills week - each day we will focus on a different sport or skill, we will take the opportunity to cheer on the classes in big school in their sports on the field, we will have an introduction to the Olympics and have our own obstacle course on Wednesday

We are now in the final three weeks of nursery, our transition visits and conversations have begun for those children leaving us for Reception class and the children are really enjoying their stay and play sessions
Over the remaining weeks we are following a theme a week
wc 5th July - 'Rainbow of emotions' - a focus on colour and all things colourful. We will share the story of the colour monster preparing to go to school with the children and have a festival of colour on Wednesday
We will look at the personal, social, emotional development aspects of dealing with change and the feelings we may encounter and developmentally appropriate strategies we may use to feel calm.
The 3 year olds will focus on the colour aspects (Exploring media and materials) - looking at how colours change when we mix them or add white or black to create shades.

We will look at the physical development and skills need to develop core strength to facilitate hopping, jumping or stopping. We will look at the Olympics and the World Cup and the wider picture of different countries taking part in the same competitions, using maps to identify countries and talk about what we know about the wider world. We will look at the social aspect of being happy for someone else if they 'win' and how to be a good sport to take a turn even if it feels tricky.

Focus on writing skills
There are two aspects to being able to write - the physicallity of holding a tool to make a mark and the process of having something to write / draw about and being able to talk about it, to verbalise what they want to communicate.
Many of the experiences and activities we offer within nursery are focused on developing the children's strength and coordination to be able to hold a pencil effectively to mark make. Children need lots of opportunities to strengthen the muscles in their hands as well as gross motor opportunities to develop core body strength and awareness. Opportunities such as sand play, dough play, running, climbing, cutting, vertical movements eg painting up and down a fence, drawing under a table all support these skills. By the end of Nursery children should be able to mark make confidently and talk about what they have drawn/written. This may be in simple shapes, may have letter shapes they have knowledge of, may be squiggles or pretend writing or may have some link to initial sounds that they can orally discriminate.
In Nursery we share lots of traditional stories and high quality picture books so children can gather a bank of ideas, hear and develop the vocabulary they will be able to use orally and then in 'big school' in written form. Writing is a complex task and needs time and opportunity.
At home you could model writing to your child - write a list, write a card or message, write a label for a picture they have made - writing the words they say verbatim / word for word.
Let your child mark make in as many different ways as your home allows - be this chalk on the pavement, on small pieces of paper, on large pieces of paper, as labels for their lego creations or a list for 'who's turn is next' draw a track for their trains. or offer strength developing tasks - using a knife and fork, throwing . catching, running up and down a hill at the park, climbing on the climbing frame

Swinnow Book Day
This year we didn’t celebrate World Book Day, as most children were learning at home due to lockdown. We are having our own celebration of books on Wednesday 5th May instead - so everyone can join in. Children can come to school dressed as a book character, as ’vocabulary’ or just in their pyjamas to celebrate bedtime stories! We do not expect anyone to spend lots of money on expensive fancy dress costumes - if you already have them, then of course they are fine to wear. There are lots of ideas on the internet of ways to dress up.

This year red nose day is on Friday 19th March
School are holding a non uniform day on this day to raise funds for the Comic relief charities.
Children in Nursery are invited to come in fancy dress or PJ's or superhero outfits on Wednesday 17th March, donations for the charity will be collected at drop off and pick up times.
In line with current coronavirus restrictions please do not go out to buy something special instead use something you already have or ask at nursery for an outfit

Nursery Rhyme challenge
So we are missing you all and your lovely singing and wanted to set you a challenge to brighten up the day!
Can you (and your grown up) take a video and upload it to Tapestry so we can hear you sing your favourite nursery rhyme.

Wiggly fingers
As well as being a mark making and a thinking activity, writing is also a physical activity.
The muscles in the hands and fingers need to be strong and agile so your child has control over them. Then, when they are ready to hold a pencil, they will be able to manipulate it across a page.
Moving and Handling – fine motor skills (PD), Writing (L)
You will need:
Your child and their hands and fingers!
1) Make a fist, squeeze tight, then let go and repeat.
2) Put your palms together, hands facing up, elbows sticking out to each side and press your hands together as
hard as you can. Release and repeat.
3) Hands out flat and gently pat a surface e.g. tabletop.
4) Hands still flat on the table, lift each finger off one at a time. Now do it starting with the other hand back the other
way.
5) Finger walking – make your first two fingers into legs, tucking the pinkie and ring finger in with the thumb, and
take the two free fingers for a walk, forwards, then backwards. Do the same with the other hand.
6) Spiders – curve your hands up and over, palms down, so that only all the fingertips are touching the table.
Wiggle and scuttle your fingers around so your hands move like spiders.
7) Finger massage – take each of the fingers and thumb of one hand in-between the finger and thumb of the other
hand. Squeeze from the top of each finger to the bottom, giving them a little massage with your other finger and
thumb. Then swap hands.
8) Shake and stretch – shake your hands out from your wrists and stretch them out like stars.
Earlier stages of development
Think about the opportunities your child has to hold things, grasp things, shake things. Play games with them using their hands – clapping, tickling their palms, wiggling fingers.

Body Counting
Our bodies are a brilliant resource for practicing counting skills.
How many ears do you have, how many eyes do you have, how many tummy buttons do you have?!
We can also count on each others bodies - how many fingers does Daddy have? Can you count Mummy's toes?
EARLIER LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES: Using mirrors together can be a really good way of familiarising children with their faces and bodies. You could even use face paints to add spots of colour to your child's face - do they realise that it's their face in the mirror? If they touch the paint on their face the answer is yes!

This week why not try to create your own visual timetable to keep a sense of structure to the day.
A visual timetable is a series of simple pictures showing different activities that happen throughout the day, e.g. getting dressed, breakfast, washing up, story time, bath time etc. We have a visual timetable at nursery, and we use it to talk with the children about what is happening each day.
Having a routine is really important for your child. It will help them feel safe and secure. This is part of the EYFS curriculum: Personal Social and Emotional Development (PSED) - Managing Feelings and Behaviour
You will need:
Any small bits of paper – you can cut out squares if you like
Pens or pencils
A way of displaying the visual timetable – string and clothes pegs, blue tack, or a surface at your child’s height to lay it on.

Christmas party for 3 & 4 year old Nursery is on Wednesday 16th December in the afternoon session.
We are asking for a donation of £1 per child so we can provide some party food snacks.
If your chid attends in the morning only we are asking you to swap sessions just on this day (Drop off from 12 collect from 2,50-3.oopm) .
If your child usually attend a full day they will attend as usual.

This week we are looking at the poetry of Michael Rosen.
Here are some videos and audio recordings of Michael Rosen reading some of his funny poems and stories for children. You could talk to your child about which words and images they enjoy or find funny.

The children are also practicing using and understanding positional language.
You could try playing 'Where's the teddy?' at home.
First get a teddy and a box and give your child instructions where to put teddy:
-'put teddy in the box'
-'put teddy on the box'
-'put teddy next to the box'
-'put teddy under the box'
Each time you give a new instruction, shut your eyes and count to ten. When you open your eyes you can see if teddy is in the right place. Then your child can have a turn giving you instructions on where to put teddy. If you sometimes get it wrong your child will no doubt enjoy putting you right!

Our book focus has been 'Colour Monster', who wakes up one day feeling like all his emotions are in a muddle of different colours. This is a great story for talking about how we feel, particularly when our feelings are difficult, or all in a muddle like Colour Monster.
Week commencing 9th November
The children have enjoyed telling us all about the fireworks they saw on fireworks night and over the weekend. The told us that they went 'woosh' and 'bang' and about all the different colours they saw.
Some children have decorated fireworks made from tubes and played with them together.
Other children have used the trays of coloured glittery sand to draw firework patterns with their fingers.
We talked about safety around fireworks and how we keep a safe distance and never touch them.

We are continuing with a Room on the Broom focus this week. On Wednesday the 3rd of November you are welcome to dress up on a 'Room on a Broom' theme. The main characters are a witch, a cat, a dog, a frog, a bird and a dragon!

Our focus book this week is 'Room on the Broom' by Julia Donaldson. We are looking out for words which rhyme and joining in with repeated refrains: "The witch tapped the broomstick and WOOSH they were gone!".

This is the last week of the summer term and what a strange term it has been. We are saying goodbye to some of our children and families as they prepare for the next stage in their learning at 'big school' and look forward to being back together in September when Nursery re-opens to all.

Physical Development and Pre-Writing skills
Today lets try something different and do some drawing and mark making in funny places!!
Can you lie on the floor and do your pictures, what about sticking your paper underneath the table so you can lie on your back to draw, write or colour, or how about sticking the paper on mum or dads back and drawing!
Doing vertical, horizontal mark making in different places helps to develop children's core strength which is important for physical development, posture and co-ordination.

Can you make a pattern with objects from around the house - can your child copy the pattern, Can you continue the pattern, can you make a repeating pattern? Write a letter
In the book Max starts off by writing the T-Rex a letter. Who could you write a letter to? Could you send a picture? ask a question?

Create your own Dinosaur
Can you use different shapes to create a 'Shape-o-saurus' dinosaur.
How many different shapes have you used for your dinosaur? How many squares are there? How many triangles? Have you used any shapes with curved sides?
In the story, Max invents a ‘Sausagesaurus’ dinosaur. Look closely at his drawing. Provide a range of fruit and vegetable halves that are interesting shapes (e.g. pepper, pear, broccoli, carrot, apple, grape) and support children to do some printing of the shapes onto paper. Once the paint has dried, they can use felt pens to add dinosaur features
Dino- races
In one of his letters to Max, the T-Rex boasts that he would probably win all the races at sports day. Set up some ‘Dinosaur races’ which might involve running on four legs, jumping, swooping or wading through a swamp.

The Knight joined the princess so they could be a flying ambulance - can you design a shield for the knight?

Week commencing 4th May
Whole School History
On Friday 8th May, the UK commemorates the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, Known as VE Day. This is the date that World War 2 ended in Europe. This week, leading up to that date would have been a whole school history focus week had we been together, learning at school.
So that we can still learn about this important time in British history, you can click on the picture above to access a pack of home learning ideas all focused on life during World War 2, and the celebrations of VE day. The pack is for all ages and has lots of interesting information for the adults too!
There is guidance with each activity as to whether it is most appropriate for KS1, KS2 or whole school, including Early Years. We would love to see your VE day learning. Roleplay challenge- Let's pretend
What can you dress up as today? Use things from round the house to create a new character - could you be a Dr, a policeman or a teacher? Can you make yourself a badge, write a note? add a label to your equipment?
Balancing challenge
Tissue Dance: Place a tissue on your child's head (and yours too!), then start some dancing music!
Everyone should start dancing and moving around the room with one goal: don’t let your tissue hit the floor!
If your tissue falls off your head, you can catch it as it drops, put it back on your head, and keep playing. How long can you dance with it on your head!
Mark making challenge
On a plate or tray put some flour, salt, hot chocolate powder or washing up liquid then allow your child to explore making marks - up and down, side to side or circles. Can you write your name? write m for mummy, what else can you write or draw?

CREATE A HOME TUCK SHOP:
Set up a tuck shop and give your children a certain amount of money to spend . This could be real or pretend money. The children might even enjoy making their own money that can be used in the tuck shop.
Encourage your children to go to the tuck shop to choose their snack and count out the money needed. Once their money has gone...no more snack. A great way to learn about money and hopefully make your snacks last a little longer! For nursery you could
Nursery Rhyme challenge
Sing nursery rhymes and songs together, add actions and change the words.

People who live in my house challenge
Draw the people who live in your house with your child, encourage them to add details of hair, eyes, fingers, if they live across more than one house can they draw who lives where...maybe even a map of the houses..
Can they write their own name, can they write a mark or letter for each person's name eg M for mummy
Then add your pictures to Tapestry
Bedtime story
Read your child a bedtime story
This may be the same story again and again and again but repetition is good for working memory
Take a photo of your favourite book to add to Tapestry
Pairs and matching games
Take time out to play a game of pairs together

Week commencing 16th March 2020
Due to the continuing issues with coronavirus we are cancelling our stay and play sessions planned for this term - Wed 18th March (Mothering Sunday) and Wed 1st April (Easter)
We are also postponing new nursery home visits until after the Easter break
In nursery we are continuing with lots of fun activities to develop the children's language, personal social development, counting and name writing. The dryer weather is also allowing us to explore the garden more...especially the muddy puddles!!

We are continuing to support the children in developing effective hand washing skills and ask all parents to wash their child's hands on entry to nursery- we are then regular,y washing hands during the session and before the children leave.
Following government guidance children or adults presenting with symptoms of a new persistent cough or a high temperature are required to stay at home and the whole family to self isolate for 14 days.
Please help us adhere to this guidance and telephone school on 3783100 to report your child's absence

This week we are joining main school to undertake a 'historical enquiry' - Mrs Wyles left us a mystery envelope with some clues inside ...
a picture of an elephant, a ginnel, a circus poster and a map!
We are answering the question
"Did elephants really roam around Leeds?"
Together we decided that maybe the elephant had escaped from the circus...so we wrote some notes to see if the circus could come to visit us...and they did!!
The children have enjoyed juggling, plate spinning alongside some who are still searching for the mysterious elephant!

The children were very surprised when they arrived to see a broken chair nursery ...perhaps Goldilocks had been in whilst we were at home...the children began to make signs and notes to let her know that she shouldn't break things or come in by herself...I wonder what else she may do...

Happy New year and welcome back after the break to all our families. The children have settled really quickly and are full of exciting stories and tales of their new toys from Santa.
This half term we are exploring traditional tales with the children, this week our focus text is
In literacy we are supporting the children to be able to recognise and write their name independently and in Maths we are consolidating accurate counting giving one number name to each item no matter how they are positioned. Please see the newsletter for further information on the newsletter with ideas to support at home and the focus across the other curriculum areas.

we will be doing party games in Nursery from 1.00pm,
eating in the main school hall from 1.30pm
and in the upstairs hall from 2pm for our 'special visitor'

This week in Nursery we are putting the finishing touches to our 'Wriggly Nativity'
Tickets are on sale for £1 from the main school office for our performance on Wed 11th December (9.30am and 2.00pm - doors will open 30 mins before the performance starts)
Wed 11th is also our traditional Christmas lunch day.
If you would like your child to stay for lunch on this day please complete a form and pay on parent-pay many thanks
Alongside these exciting activities we will be focusing on Christmas stories - reading and sharing our favourites. We will be creating and sharing our own stories with a teacher, who will write it down to add to our Nursery book - at group time we then act the story out to really bring it to life.

The countdown to Christmas has started, in Nursery we have been looking at and sharing the story of the first Christmas
Thank you to all the parents who were able to join us for our festive stay and play session, the children had a wonderful time and are building on their understanding of Christmas traditions.

What a busy first week back after the autumn break

We celebrated the children's experiences of Bonfire and fireworks through creative and oracy activities - sounds like everyone had great fun watching the colours in the sky

We extended the children's interest in dinosaurs to create a 'Dinosaur den' in nursery - take a look at some of the fact cards when you are in nursery - it is quite amazing to think how big some of the dinosaurs actually were!
The children have wonderful knowledge about all things 'dinosaurs' and we are building in this to support further learning in maths and writing

Week commencing 14th October 2019
Wow what a busy week!
We have introduced our "Take one book" to the children , in all classes across the whole school we use the same book to stimulate learning - this term we have been looking at Shakesperes 'Macbeth'
"Hubble Bubble Toil and trouble, fires burn and couldrons bubble"
The children have enjoyed the witches song and used this as inspiration for making potions, writing spells, building houses, doing spooky dances and much much more.
